Monday Evening Pub Crawl

Monday evening, we went on a guided "pub crawl" - at least that was what it was called although I wouldn't call the bars we visited pubs exactly - in costume.  There were four stops and in each one we had a glass of wine. The tour was supposed to be in costume although some people were in street clothes.  Some of the costumes, however, were fantastic and it was a rather large group.  We started not far from the university area and the Accademia bridge with a glass of Prosecco which was served with prosciutto on bread.  One in the group took a picture of those of us in costume outside that "pub".

At our next stop, we had white wine which was again served with some finger food; the third stop which took about 15 minutes to walk to including through what had been the "red light" (Carampane) district in Venice was spent drinking a glass of red wine standing in an alley.  The photo below is of a very famous and highly recommended restaurant.  I think the guide said it translates as "Old Prostitute" but I am not totally sure about that!

The final stop was actually at an Irish pub - yes, there is one in Venice or at least that is what it is called.  I couldn't see anything particularly Irish about it.  There we were served an Aperol Spritz which became one of my favourite drinks when I was in Italy last year.  By then, we had chatted to a number of people in the group including 4 Americans who were United flight attendants and two sisters from the Black Country near Birmingham.  They were a ton of fun and they joined us afterwards for dinner at a pizzeria.  Those Brummies sure know how to have a good time!
